Who Is Your Hero?
Heroes can take on various forms! Artists will play with the idea of
several by using a variety of media to honor them all! We will be inspired by the
works of Roy Lichtenstein which have a comic strip vibe. Projects will include a
crash course on the art of comic strips and letter design and a free standing
sculpture of your favorite hero complete with fabric cape! We will also create
pieces to honor our everyday heroes like our family and pets! It’s sure to be a
journey full of creative adventure!
Follow Your Dreams
Have you ever wanted to bring one of your dreams to life? Would you be swimming in an ocean or flying in the sky? Artists will be inspired by the dreamlike quality of Chagall and Magritte’s works and use an oil pastel resist method to bring some of their dreams into reality on a large canvas! Perhaps one of the characters that would move through your dream would take the very real form of a soft sculpture! Is it possible that you would need a custom designed metal medallion to allow for time travel? We will put our imaginations in high gear for this surreal journey!
It Begins With A Story
Artists will begin each day of this workshop being transported by a story which will inspire the project of the day! We will move through five different books and a minimum of five different projects! An example of one of our points of departure is the book entitled The Moon. It has a unique cut out design which will lead us to a nocturnal cut out scene of our own! We will use a variety of media including watercolor, acrylic, sculptaclay, tissue and many more! Artist will leave with a love of story and the power of their own creative connection.
Wonder Is All Around You
It is so easy for children who have been born with the internet to overlook the simple things right in front of them that could spark their imagination. We will look closely at the beauty of common materials and how they can lead us to a masterpiece! The cereal aisle at the supermarket…a painting? Wood pieces arranged in a box and spray painted …..a piece of fine art? Artists will examine the works of Nevelson and decide for themselves. Plants under a microscope…. a possible topic for a watercolor piece! Artists will leave with a new set of eyes to notice inspiration for their creativity everywhere!
